----------------------------
Great hammerhead sharks are the largest of the nine species of hammerheads. They live in temperate and tropical waters all over the world. These sharks can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh up to 1,000 pounds, though most are smaller and considered generally harmless to humans. Hammerheads have wide-set eyes that allow them to scan an area more quickly than other shark species. They hunt alone and use their wide heads to trap stingrays against the sand. They are globally endangered, mostly due to overfishing and bycatch.
