Manatees are typically found in shallow coastal areas and rivers where they feed on seagrass, mangrove leaves, and algae. Manatees have no natural predators, but humans have played a large part in putting all three species at risk of extinction. Their bodies are mostly made up of the stomach and intestines, making them look like they have much more body fat than they actually do. Because of their slow nature, they are often accidentally hit by motorboats, and they sometimes become entangled in fishing nets. While their populations are starting to increase, they are still classified as threatened.
