The dumbo octopus lives in the deep ocean and get its name because of the its two large fins that protrude like ears. It uses these fins to propel itself through the water. Compared to most other octopus species, the dumbo is small and is about the size of a guinea pig. This octopus is the deepest-living genus of all known octopuses and lives at least 13,100 feet below the surface. Because it lives in such extreme depths, it has no use for an ink sac to fend off predators, and is rarely captured in fishing nets.
